Timeline & Logistics

  • Variable Timing: Exact fitting timelines vary based on the complexity of your gown and specific requirements.
  • What to Bring: To ensure accuracy, please bring your wedding shoes and the exact undergarments you plan to wear to every appointment.

What to Bring?

Essential Fittings Preparation: What to Bring

To ensure your wedding gown is tailored to perfection, your fittings require a specific "foundation." Because the fit and length of your gown are dependent on your height and posture, having the correct items at every appointment is critical to the process.

The "Must-Have" Checklist

  • Foundation & Undergarments: Please bring the specific bra, shapewear, or undergarments you plan to wear on your wedding day to all of your fittings. These items change how the bodice sits on your body.

  • The Perfect Shoes: Your seamstress cannot accurately measure or pin your hem without your shoes.

  • The Exact Pair: Bring the shoes you will be wearing on your wedding day to your first fitting.

  • The Alternative: If you haven’t purchased your wedding shoes yet, you must bring a pair that is the exact same heel height and style as the ones you intend to wear.

Pro-Tip: My Beloved does not sell footwear, so we recommend beginning your shoe search early to ensure you have them ready for your first appointment!

Important Policy Regarding Shoes:

The first fitting is the most critical stage for determining your hemline. If you do not have your shoes at your first fitting, we will be unable to proceed with the appointment. In the event that shoes are forgotten:

  1. We will attempt to reschedule you for later that same day (pending appointment availability).
  2. If no openings are available, an additional appointment will need to be scheduled, which may affect your overall timeline.

Fitting Appointments

The Alterations Journey: From Arrival to "I Do"

At My Beloved, we believe the magic is in the fit. Because most gowns are ordered based on your base measurements to ensure there is enough fabric to work with, it is perfectly normal for your dress to feel too large or look unfinished during your first visit. This is simply the canvas for our expert artisans to begin their work.

What to Expect During the Process

  • Arrival & Scheduling: To ensure your timeline is accurate, we will only schedule your first fitting once your gown has officially arrived at My Beloved and passed our quality inspection.

  • The Custom Sculpting: During your appointments, your personal seamstress will skillfully pin your gown in all the right places. This process adjusts the designer’s structure to your unique silhouette, ensuring a customized fit that feels as good as it looks.

  • The Fitting Timeline: While every bride is unique, you should generally expect to have about three fittings to achieve perfection. This allows us to refine the details incrementally, from the initial hem and bustle to the final delicate adjustments.

Important Note on Your First Fitting

Don't be discouraged if your gown doesn't fit properly when you first put it on! Remember: your gown was ordered to match your measurements, but it hasn't been tailored to your shape yet. Our team is here to transform that "base" gown into your dream dress.

Dress Hem

The Perfect Hem: Grace and Ease for Your Wedding Day

The hem is one of the most critical elements of your alterations process. It is the precise art of shortening your gown to match your individual height and heel height, ensuring you move with grace and confidence from the ceremony to the dance floor.

Why the Hem Matters

A proper hem is essential for both safety and style. Our goal is to ensure the front of your gown sits approximately one-quarter of an inch above the ground. This precise measurement ensures:

  • You won't trip while walking down the aisle.
  • You won’t need to constantly pick up or hold your skirt as you move.
  • The silhouette of the dress remains clean and intentional.

What to Expect

  • The Front vs. The Train: While the front of your gown will be expertly shortened to your height, the length of your train will remain the same, maintaining the dramatic flair of your gown’s original design.
  • The Shoe Requirement: Because a fraction of an inch makes all the difference, the exact shoes you will be wearing on your wedding day are required at every fitting. Without them, your fitter cannot accurately complete your hem.

The Bustle

The Art of the Bustle: Transitioning from Ceremony to Celebration

Once your ceremony and photos are complete, you’ll want to move freely without your train dragging behind you. Bustling is the process of gathering and pinning up your train to create a beautiful, floor-length gown that allows you to eat, drink, and dance the night away with ease!

Finding Your Perfect Style

During your fittings, your expert fitter will present different bustle options tailored to the fabric and silhouette of your gown. Depending on the design, your bustle will be secured using a discreet series of buttons and loops or ties and snaps. The most popular styles include:

  • The French Bustle: Often featuring under-tucks that create a tiered, romantic look.
  • The Traditional (American) Bustle: Lifting the train to attach to the waistline or back of the bodice for a classic finish.

Learning the Technique

Don’t worry about the logistics—we are here to ensure you are fully prepared! Your fitter will provide a hands-on demonstration to teach you and a designated assistant (such as your mother, bridesmaid, wedding planner, or day-of stylist exactly how to secure the bustle.

Pro-Tip:

We highly recommend recording a video of your fitter demonstrating the bustling process. It serves as a perfect reference for your bridal party to ensure everything is seamless on the big day!

Quality Control & Beading Check

Quality Control: Ensuring Every Detail is Perfect

At My Beloved, we believe that your gown should be nothing short of flawless when it leaves our hands. Once your final fitting is complete, your dress moves into our rigorous quality control phase—the ultimate "beauty check" for your gown.

The Detail Inspection

Our specialists meticulously examine every inch of your dress to ensure it meets our high standards of excellence. During quality control, your dress is checked to ensure that each:

  • Bead and Crystal: Every shimmering element is tightened and secure.
  • Lace Appliqué: Intricate lace details are perfectly laid and fastened.
  • Sequin & Embellishment: All decorative touches are inspected for placement and durability.

The My Beloved Standard

This dedicated process ensures that your gown is structurally sound and aesthetically perfect for your walk down the aisle. We take the time to look for even the smallest imperfections, so you can step into your wedding day with absolute confidence, knowing your gown is in pristine condition.

Press & Pack

Final Preparation: The My Beloved Finishing Touch

Once your alterations are complete and your gown has passed its final quality inspection, our specialists begin the meticulous process of preparing it for your wedding day. We ensure your dress is as pristine as it was the moment you first fell in love with it.

Pristine Presentation

After your final fitting, your gown will be professionally pressed, steamed, and packed with tissue paper. This ensures the fabric remains wrinkle-free and maintains its beautiful, sculpted shape while in transit or storage.

Protection and Privacy

To keep your gown in flawless condition, it will be placed inside an opaque, breathable, cloth garment bag. This specialized bag provides several benefits:

  • Safety & Protection: Guards against dust, light, and snags.
  • Breathability: Allows delicate fabrics like silk and tulle to "breathe" without trapping moisture.
  • Total Privacy: The opaque design ensures your gown remains a secret until you are ready to slip into it on your wedding day!
